Over the past 20 years, the legal industry has gone through tremendous change in its approach to legal marketing and business development — and Dave Harvey has had a ringside seat. As a Director of Business Development for several AmLaw 50 firms, as well as Chief Marketing Officer for a Washington DC-based communications firm, Dave has both grown up with and helped guide marketing and business development efforts for some of the most important firms in the US and the world.

Located just outside of Washington, D.C., Dave Harvey has had the opportunity to work with both Washington-based firms like Morgan Lewis and WilmerHale as well as leading West Coast firms like Morrison & Foerster and Orrick. Through his work with national and international roundtables, Dave has facilitated discussions with more than 25 leading law firms.
Dave’s wide-ranging experience includes supporting lawyers in a variety of practices, from corporate to litigation to regulatory. This work has included assisting firms in developing clients in a wide range of industries, namely technology, financial services, life sciences, and energy — and emerging areas such as AI, blockchain, and autonomous vehicle technologies.
Dave lives in Oak Hill, Virginia in suburban Washington, D.C. with his wife Devon. They have called the area home for 30 years and raised two children, Byron and Nathan, who now live in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and Denver, Colorado respectively.

Business Development Coaching/Training
Harvey Global works with both individual and groups of lawyers to provide one-on-one business development coaching based on proven strategies and techniques. The coaching program includes interviewing and assessing the current knowledge, skills and needs of the lawyer, then planning an individualized program for refinement of skills and to drive business development results. Dave Harvey also facilitates and conducts business development training for groups of attorneys — from associate level to senior partners.

Clients increasingly want their legal providers to understand their business, both the strategy and operation of their business, as well as broader industry trends. They want a legal advisor who is attuned to the breakneck changes in their industry. Shifting from a firm organized by practice to one organized by sector presents myriad challenges. Harvey Global conducts one-on-one interviews with key clients and prospects to assess client service performance, evaluate new market opportunities and help law firms develop client-focused strategies, plans and programs. This includes designing new client feedback initiatives, and providing training for in-house marketing leaders who are conducting client feedback sessions.
